Our Approach
Why a Brain Based Approach?
The Brain is the master control center of the human body, controlling every single cell, tissue, organ, muscle, and function.
When the central nervous system, which is comprised of the brain and spinal cord, is chronically stressed, people can experience signs of dysregulation: pain, fatigue, headaches, trouble sleeping, anxiety, and digestive issues.

Back to Balance Wellness Center FAQs
Applied Neuroscience, answered
At Back to Balance Wellness Center
Most people think of “pain” as a problem solely in the muscles or joints. However, pain is actually an output of the brain. Applied Neuroscience focuses on the “software” of your body—training your nervous system to communicate more efficiently with your physical “hardware.”
At Back to Balance Wellness Center, we use these advanced neurological protocols to help patients who have tried “everything” but still feel off-balance, uncoordinated, or in chronic pain.
How is this different from standard Physical Therapy?
While traditional therapy focuses on the “hardware” (muscles and bones), Applied Neuroscience focuses on the “software” (the Nervous System). * We don’t just ask where it hurts; we ask how your brain perceives that part of your body.
- If your brain’s “map” of your ankle or back is blurry due to an old injury, it will create pain to protect you.
- We use neurological drills to “clear up the map,” which often leads to instant improvements in flexibility and strength that traditional stretching can’t match
Will the Drills or Assessments Be Painful?
Not at all. In fact, the goal is often the exact opposite.
- Neurological Drills: These might involve visual tracking, inner-ear (vestibular) exercises, or specific sensory inputs.
- Immediate Feedback: We use “re-testing” after every drill. If a drill makes you feel tighter or weaker, we stop immediately.
- Comfort-First: This is a brain-based approach; if your brain feels safe, your body relaxes. You should leave these sessions feeling more “connected” and relaxed, not sore.
Is This Approach Safe?
It is exceptionally safe. Because we are using your body’s natural sensory systems (eyes, ears, skin), there is no forceful manipulation or invasive equipment.
- Guided by Your Body: We use your own neurological “feedback loops” to dictate the pace.
- No Stress: We aim to lower the stress on your nervous system, not increase it.
- Universal Application: This approach is safe for everyone from seniors working on balance to high-level athletes looking for an edge.
Does It Actually Work?
Yes—provided the diagnosis is correct. We see the highest success rates in:
• Chronic Tendonitis (Hip, knee, or shoulder)
• Ligament Sprains that haven’t fully healed
• Trigger Points and deep muscle knots
• Calcific Tendinopathy
While many feel immediate relief, the true physiological changes happen over a series of 4–6 sessions. We combine AWT with functional movement and chiropractic adjustments to ensure that once the tissue is healed, your body knows how to move correctly again.
Why Do Results Vary?
The nervous system is the most complex structure in the known universe, and every brain is different. Results can vary based on:
- Neurological History: Past injuries, concussions, or even high-stress levels can “clutter” the nervous system.
- Neural Plasticity: It takes time and repetition to “rewire” a movement pattern that has been ingrained for years.
- Home Integration: The brain learns best through short, frequent bursts of input. Patients who perform their “brain drills” at home see much faster and more permanent results.
We take the time to map your specific “neural blind spots” so we can provide the exact input your brain needs to feel balanced again.
